CSSA Officers

Heather Lum
President

Hi, my name is Heather Lum and I am a 4th year doctoral student in the Applied Experimental & Human Factors program. My research interests include two main categories; human-animal and human-robot interactions as well as team cognition and training. In particular, I have focused recently on anthropomorphism, perceptions of animals and robots, animal training, and cruelty practices in the ACAT lab. In the MURI lab, my research includes physiological measures such as eye tracking and vocal analysis as another means to study team cognition and interaction. I have held office in several organizations including the Social Chair and Treasurer of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society Student Chapter. I was Vice-President and Webmaster of the CSSA last year and hope to bring the same enthusiasm and energy to the President position.  Last year, the CSSA began forming into a great organization and I believe that I can continue on that path and make it even stronger through increased membership, more events, speakers, and a host of other ideas.

Daniel Cook
Vice -President

My name is Dan. I graduated from a small liberal arts college in St. Petersburg, FL. (Eckerd College). My undergraduate work was primarily in the history of western philosophy with an emphasis on theories of epistemology and ontology. I like to think that individual differences account for most misunderstandings between people and that groups of people can achieve harmony through participatory dialogue. I like Indian food and I cook a mean curry.    At UCF I will be working toward a graduate certificate in cognitive science.  Then I will go over to the UK at the University of Hertfordshire and complete a M.A. in philosophy of narrative, mind, and ethics. Here's the website for interested parties: http://www.herts.ac.uk/courses/schools-of-study/humanities/subject-areas/philosophy/ma-philosophy/apl-ucf.cfm  I plan on eventually completing a PhD in philosophy and refocusing my attention on the philosopher G.W.F. Hegel.  I have somewhat of an obsession with his work. As an officer of the CSSA I hope to help organize some type of CogSci conference for the "I-4" colleges and universities.  I look forward to working with everyone throughout the year.

Matthew Colenzo Treasurer

I began my education at UCF in the Spring 2005 semester pursuing interests in computer science, but changed to philosophy not too long thereafter. I developed a strong curiosity regarding Philosophy of Mind and Language and am tailoring my education to the Cognitive Sciences. When I'm not at work or in class, you'll find me reading or writing. I also play a pretty good game of golf if I don't keep score.

Tshilaba Verite
Secretary

Tshilaba Verite is an Interdisciplinary Studies graduate student with focus in Cognitive Sciences, having already obtained a bachelor’s in Philosophy and a minor in Math. She is three classes away from a bachelor’s in Physics and will probably stay that way. Her current philosophical interests are cognitive science, time, and errors in communication. Her goal is to become a philosophy professor. Her hobbies and interests include rabbits, aikido, tea, and tabletop gaming.
